3 Ways Anxiety Can Save Your Life

Lifecoach for women San Francisco

I thought I’d made all the right moves: I worked full time through college, found a great job in tech and nestled into a San Francisco home with my high school sweetheart. Life was cushy and it was all smooth sailing from there.

Little did I know, my ship was about to sink and turbulent times were ahead.

The storm’s name was Anxiety.

She saved my life.

And she can save yours too in these three ways:

#1 Anxiety indicates something is wrong and needs attention.

Initially it was mild. I would cringe at the sound of my alarm clock in the morning or get the “Sunday Scaries” after a great weekend with friends. Going into work was something I did NOT look forward to, but that’s normal, right?

Then it got worse. Intense nausea would creep in through the pit of my stomach everytime I parked my car in front of the office. I tried my best to push away the feeling but nothing seemed to work.

It got so bad that I started having panic attacks and passing out in public places because of the uncontrollable stress.

Something was dangerously wrong and I couldn't ignore it anymore.

There was a huge discrepancy between who I was and how I had chosen to live my life, which was causing all of these reactions. My values, passions and priorities were hidden from everyone, including myself. I was losing my confidence and my identity. And if I continued in this direction, it would have been destructive to my mental and physical health.

#2 Anxiety inspires action.

Desperate to find answers and a cure for my condition, I saw a doctor and he prescribed pills - which only made me drowsy and didn’t fix anything.

A turning point for me came after discovering spiritual teachers. They inspired me to start journaling, meditating and reading a ton of books. I guess you would call this a spiritual awakening. And as woo-woo and cheesy as it sounds, it was more valuable for me than taking prescription drugs.

A big shift happened after gaining more insight and self awareness - for the first time, I became the leader of my life. No longer would I follow a path that wasn’t made for me.

The panic-attacks stopped.

#3 Anxiety instigates lasting change.

I was sold. THIS was the new direction I needed to pursue. I just felt it. And I dove head first into the personal development world and discovered the realm of coaching.

From there my life transformed. I quit my soul-sucking career, became a life coach for women and bought a 1-way ticket to Bali. That was five years ago and it was the best decision I’ve ever made.

I am now 100% aligned with my purpose and I feel gratitude everyday for going on the journey that got me here.

Finding my calling wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the anxiety to guide me here. There was no template or structured career path to follow. I didn’t even know coaching was “a thing” back then. No one I personally knew was doing it, and it left me to carve out my own path and trust my intuition (which was guided by anxiety).

Anxiety isn’t the villain here, even though it can often feel that way.

And instead of avoiding it or letting it take over, what if you learn to listen to it?

What if the internal storm you feel isn’t actually a bad thing?

What if the turbulence is guiding you exactly where you need to go?
